2016 Pinot Noir Silvershot Vineyard

2016 Pinot Noir Silvershot Vineyard
Eola-Amity Hills

Silvershot Vineyard (which used to be called Crowley Station) is a sustainably farmed vineyard situated in the western end of the Eola-Amity Hills in the Willamette Valley. The vines, planted in 1998, are own-rooted and dry-farmed. A variety of soils run through the site in layers of volcanic and silty clay loam, erratic basalt boulders, and ancient marine sediment. The Silvershot strikes a lovely middle ground among our 2016 Pinots. Juicy red raspberry and strawberry fruits take center stage on a frame of velvet tannins and gentle but persistent acid. Secondary notes of sous bois, mushroom, and damp earth lend beautiful complexity to an already elegant wine.

92 points John Gilman in View From the Cellar: "The 2016 Silvershot Vineyard bottling of pinot noir from Brianne Day is excellent. This comes in at a cool 12.5 percent octane and offers up a beautifully precise bouquet of red and black cherries, a touch of balsam bough, raw cocoa, superb soil tones, woodsmoke and a deft touch of gently spicy oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and soil-driven, with an excellent core of fruit, tangy acids, ripe, seamless tannins and a very long, nascently complex finish that closes with excellent grip and bounce. This is a superb wine in the making. 2026-2055." (Jan/Feb 2020)
